'The Inspector Raj Factors'
This is with reference to the editorial written by Viveka
Roychowdhury in the July issue. I found it most appropriate and it is indeed
a contemporary topic. Recently, the newspapers carried an advertisement for
noise pollution control of DG sets in hospitals and medical establishments,
issued by the Delhi Government.
The site would be inspected after a fee of Rs 5000 is paid
to the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). The results of this inspection
will depend on 'the inspector raj factors.' This is yet another means adopted
by the Government to institutionalise corruption or else the certificate might
not be issued.

A Great Effort
This refers to the reported article titled 'Bringing Back
the Smile' written by Sonal Shukla in the issue dated July, 2008. The project
has really taken a mammoth effort to make it reach to the needy, with help pouring
in from all corners of the world. The cause of correcting cleft and palate which
is seen as a deformity in the physical appearance and this surgery helps people
in reviving their lost confidence and it is a feel good factor. The effort by
Shija hospitals in co-ordination with other organisation to help them out in
this project has to be applauded as the surgery comes without any profit-making
intention which is generally the norm in most of the projects today. The offer
of free transport, free accommodation, free medicines and food, really should
attract people from north eastern states. Hats off to Shija Hospitals and others
involved in this genuine effort. Now, it should spread its wings in other parts
of the country.

I read the article 'Connecting Rural Health' written by Sonal
Shukla, in the issue June 2008. It is indeed an impressive article. The model
is very innovative, self sufficient and could be an answer to the woes of the
health problems of the third world.
