Defi-Art Biphasic Cardiac Defibrillator is manufactured with technology licensed from Corscience, GmbH, Germany. It features a fully automated control system which measures the patients ECG and impedance and delivers a constant current in a rectilinear biphasic waveform, which has been established to deliver better outcomes with minimal damage to the cardiac tissues. The Public Access Defibrillators (PAD) uses voice prompting and visual guidance to assist the emergency personnel, who could also be a good Samaritan bystander, to operate the device, deliver CPR and save lives. It can be located in public areas such as railway stations, apartments, shopping areas etc.

BPL Healthcare is targeting revenues over US $100 million by the year 2013. Referring to the launch of the BPL Defi-Art, Ajit Nambiar, Chairman and Managing Director, BPL Ltd, says, "Economic growth and globalisation dictate several healthcare imperatives for our country and for our people. BPL Healthcare is committed to delivering innovative, affordable and reliable Healthcare solutions that provide significant benefits via preventive diagnosis and effective treatment."

BPL Healthcare, over the past 12 months, has entered into strategic collaborations with a number of technology companies integrating combined intellectual resources of latest diagnostic equipments, to address the immediate needs of healthcare infrastructure in India. Over the next few months, BPL healthcare will launch a host of affordable new products.

Vijay Simha, Chief Operating Officer, BPL Healthcare explains, "While recognising the fact that in healthcare, prevention is better and cheaper than cure, our country has not taken any positive steps into building a strong framework for a vibrant medical diagnostic equipment industry. Over dependence on imports will only push up healthcare costs. BPL Healthcare intends to bridge this gap with effective solutions."

BPL Defi-Art Defibrillators will be priced between Rs 75,000/- and Rs 1,50,000/- and will be manufactured at BPL's ISO 13485 certified facility at Palakkad.

BPL will also introduce the CORBELT, a cardiac event monitor that can be worn on the chest while allowing full mobility. Corbelt monitors the ECG continuously, and uses an intelligent algorithm to detect any event that indicates an abnormality in the heart functioning. The irregularities are then transmitted via Bluetooth of the patient's cell phone and then onto the emergency control center, a clinic or the treating physician. This device would be very useful for persons who are have been identified as high risk and for the those whose cardiac condition need to be kept under close observation.
