Founded in 2002, Trivandrum based Kerala Institute of Medical
Sciences (KIMS) with its 450 bed strength was started off by Great India Healthcare
Management has now expanded its realm of operations and diversified into various
aspects of healthcare under the name KIMS Healthcare Management Ltd (KHML).
The Hospital treats on an average 750 patients in its OPD every day
Significant Achievements in the Last One Year
One
of the significant achievements of the Hospital this year is NABL accreditation
of its laboratory. The cardiology team of the Hospital has won the AV Gandhi
Memorial National award for the second time for excellence in cardiology.
New Initiatives
In its ongoing effort to offer comprehensive cancer care, KIMS Hospital is on
the anvil of starting its Department of Oncology. "We are also in the process
of replicating our successful management systems to other centres through our
management consultancy division. In this regard, our team is actively working
in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and UAE," explains Dr MI Sa'adullah,
Chairman.

It has adopted Electronic Medical Record (EMR). "This
will ease the retrieval of medical data for use of patients, research and government
authorities," states Dr Sahadulla. Hospital Information System, Picture
Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), hardware and software firewalls,
centralised anti-virus system, duress alarm system to ensure safety of staff
and patients, digital X-ray machine for precise and accurate diagnosis and linear
accelerator are the noteworthy additions made by the Hospital.
Quality and Patient Friendliness
The Hospital has started various committees to ensure patient,
staff and visitor safety.
Safe operations and patient safety committee is formed for the purpose of addressing
safety issues and monitoring safety system in the Hospital. The committee reviews
incident reports, safety rounds reports and take necessary preventive and corrective
actions. Infection Control Committee started by KIMS ensures that safe infection
control practices are followed in the Hospital. Credentialing and Privileging
Committee is done for all clinicians in the Hospital to ensure delivery of appropriate
treatment in an appropriate environment. "Like this the Transfusion Committee
ensures safe blood transfusions in the Hospital and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Committee ensures safe medication administration," explains Sa'adullah.
The Hospital does risk assessment of major activities in various departments
in which hazards are identified and necessary preventive measures are taken.
Pre employment check is done for all employees prior to joining.
CSR
KIMS Charitable Trust takes care of the Hospital's CSR initiatives. Medical
camps, health awareness programmes, subsidised care for the needy are some of
the routine activities of the trust. Under its Smile Train Programme free surgeries
are undertaken for cleft and palate surgeries.
Long-term Vision
The long term vision of the Hospital is to attain horizontal
and vertical growth so as to become one of the most preferred healthcare and
health tourism destinations in Asia with focus on medicine, education and research.
