Sri Ramachandra Medical Center, Chennai
Built on 175 acres land, Sri Ramachandra Medical Centre (SRMC)
in Chennai is a 900 bedded state-of-the-art, tertiary care multi-specialty Hospital.
It was founded by Late NPV Ramaswamy Udayar in 1985. It is now functioning under
the dynamic leadership of VR Venkataachalam, Managing Trustee of the Hospital
and Chancellor of Sri Ramachandra university. Around 650 patients visit the
Hospital daily.
Significant Achievements in the Last Year
The
12 bedded cardiac ICU and the 13 bedded neuro ICU were renovated and opened
with fully equipped state-of-the-art facilities recently in the Hospital. The
newly renovated Department of Radiology has approximately 20,000 square feet
of space. The Department of Anesthesiology and the Department of Urology of
the Hospital have obtained ISO certification.
New Initiatives
SRMC has introduced its ambulatory care center in Alwarpet and Thiruvanmiyur
Chennai, which includes primary, specialty and preventive care, value-added
services like 24 hrs pharmacy, physiotherapy, complementary and alternative
medicine, corporate healthcare, home laboratory services, home visit by doctors
and home delivery of medicines. The institute has a telemedicine facility that
provides medical service and conducts continuing medical education programmes.
Sri Ramachandra Stem Cell Transplant Center specialises in haematology/ haemato-oncology
and stem-cell transplant. The eye bank is a newly added facility in the Opthalmology
Department of the Hospital.

The Hospital is planning to implement Picture Archiving and
Communication System (PACS) to enable easy access of images at the consultant's
room in the next two months.
The Hospital boasts of a NABL accredited Central Clinical
Hospital Laboratory spread over 9000 sq ft area, which complies with ISO 15189:2003
standards. The Hospital blood bank is the largest in Asia, spread over 10,000
sq ft and it works round-the-clock. A modern central research facility and animal
laboratory are additional centres of excellence situated in the campus. An alliance
with the prestigious Harvard Medical International is helping doctors and nurses
to improve quality and patient safety.
CSR
The societal needs are demonstrated through programmes like 'Deenanandhini'
which provides free treatment for poor patients and 'Arogyavarshini' which provides
home care for the elderly. Under its 'Varumun Kappoom Thittam' (preventive healthcare
scheme), the Hospital conducts routine free health check-up camps every month
in different villages with the help of State Government organisations for the
benefit of the rural people. Sri Ramachandra Cleft and Craniofacial Center of
the Hospital operates with the support of Smile-Train Project (an American non-profit
organisation), USA. Free orthognathic facial surgery for deserving cleft patients
has been launched. In addition, SRMC runs a separate hospital called Sri Ramachandra
Hospital in the same campus, which provides free healthcare services to the
economically weaker sections of the society. The Hospital building has a dedicated
three floors of outpatient services and five floors of inpatient services for
economically poor patients. Over 3000 people walk in the OPD daily and 750 beds
are allotted free treatment.
USP
SRMC also serves international patients from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan,
Mauritius, Seychelles, South-East Asia, East-Africa and the Middle-East. An
